UCP4SUCCESS is a project funded by DGES and PRR with the objective of promoting the integration and academic success of students, particularly at the beginning of their university career. During the period from April 2024 to June 2026, the project developed various resources and initiatives to support students' adaptation to university life. One of the initiatives focused on the structuring of Tutoring processes by lecturers to Católica students. Information on Tutoring by Lecturers is available on this portal.
Administrative questions should be addressed to the academic services or secretarial support of the courses in which you teach, in your Faculty, School or Institute. In specific matters, you can also contact the Course Coordination.
Technical support for digital platforms is provided by the University's IT services. This support can be requested via email to the Information Systems Directorate (dsi@ucp.pt) or Helpdesk (helpdesk@ucp.pt).
Each Faculty, School or Institute defines the specific assessment practices within the scope of its Rules of Procedure. In all cases, student assessment should be transparent and consistent with learning objectives. Practices that promote academic rigour, equity, constructive feedback and alignment with institutional and pedagogical regulations are favoured.
These situations should be treated sensitively and in accordance with the Regulations of the respective Faculty, School or Institute. The lecturer may articulate any pedagogical or student-related issue with the Course Coordinator in which he/she teaches. Whenever necessary, students can be referred to social or psychological support services, seeking the appropriate response.
They are digital platforms to support teaching that allow lecturers to provide access to class materials, bibliographic support, classifications and other resources. The platform used varies by campus:
- Moodle System: used in Braga, Lisbon and Viseu.
- Blackboard System: used in Porto and at the Faculty of Medicine (Lisbon).
- Fénix System: it is in the implementation stage throughout Católica (at the moment this system is already in operation at ESB Porto, CLSBE Lisboa and FM Lisboa).
- ESCA system: used on all campuses (in the case of academic units that have already migrated to Fénix, the use of the ESCA system no longer applies).
Turnitin is an originality verification tool that generates a similarity index with existing materials or documents. This value (percentage index) must be interpreted in a contextualized way, analysing the type of correspondence identified and verifying that the sources are correctly cited, not constituting, by itself, proof of plagiarism.
In general (and only as a guiding reference):
- 0–10%: there is no indication of plagiarism;
- 10–20%: common in academic works, especially when there are correct citations and references;
- 20–30%: requires careful analysis of the sources and type of coincidences;
- 30%: may indicate plagiarism, depending on the content identified.
It is important to consider:
- Correctly referenced direct citations increase the percentage and do not constitute plagiarism;
- Technical expressions, titles and bibliographic references also contribute to the similarity;
- Shorter works tend to have higher percentages.
In case of suspicion of plagiarism or other academic irregularity, the lecturer must follow the procedures provided for in the institutional regulation, collecting evidence and articulating with the course coordination, ensuring a fair, reasoned and institutionally framed performance.
Students can be referred to the support services existing on each campus, such as psychological, social or pedagogical support. Information on each service and the form of referral is available on this portal, in the Supports section.
Changes in behaviour, frequent absences, marked drop in academic performance, isolation or visible signs of emotional distress may warrant additional attention and eventual referral to support services.
