From 26 March to 13 June, the D. José Pedro da Silva Library, at the Viseu Regional Centre of Universidade Católica Portuguesa, is hosting the exhibition “The Sculpture of the Forgotten: From Waste to Art”, an innovative initiative that transforms discarded materials into true works of art.

Conceived by the artist José António Antunes, the exhibition invites the public to take a new look at waste and reuse, revealing the hidden beauty in what many consider worthless.

The exhibition, which combines art, creativity and sustainability, is part of the Culture Initiative of the UCP4SUCCESS Project and is held in partnership with the SOS Caloiro Mentoring Group and the Student Association of UCP-Campus Viseu.

Each sculpture on display is the result of a creative process that reuses forgotten objects, showing that, with imagination and sensitivity, it is possible to give a new life to what has been rejected. As well as appreciating the works, visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about the creative process, from the selection of materials to the final transformation, finding out about the techniques used by the artisan and the message each piece conveys.

Admission is free and open to both the academic community and the general public, promoting inclusive access to art and culture. The exhibition will be open to the public from Monday to Friday, from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm and from 1:30 pm to 6:00 pm.

More than an exhibition, this is an immersive experience that challenges the public to reflect on sustainability and the importance of reusing materials in everyday life.
